We listened to Dry the River by No Rest in class as a group. We did not see the music video just listened to the song and we were told to come up with a few ideas on how we would direct a music video for this song. We also looked at a potential storyline and how the actors would be feeling.
The first idea that we came up with was a man walking down a road slowly dissolving into dust as he has lost the love of his life. This shows that is life no longer has any meaning and that he is worthless without her. He feels like a nobody and wants the fall down and disappear.
Another idea that the class came up with was a man singing walking drown a street. Except he was walking slowly but at normal pace whereas everything around him such as other people and cars were moving faster than usual. This shows that the rest of the world is carrying on as usual whereas he is stuck in his own thoughts. It also shows that no one else knows of his problems so no one stops to help him.
My idea was to have a man slowly walking down a dusty road singing. He would be alone to personify his feelings. Some shots will be slowed down to show clearly the expression on the mans face so that the audience can relate to the singer and can feel his pain.
